PSYCHOTHERAPY AND COUNSELLING

About me

I am a fully qualified and experienced psychotherapist accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. As well as maintaining my private practice, I have experience of working within the charity sector and the NHS. Currently I work within the NHS community eating disorders service in Hertfordshire.

My background of working with young people for many years has given me a depth of understanding of the impact of upbringing and family on one’s emotional health and way of being. Moreover, my professional transition from teaching history to listening to and helping others make sense of their own personal history is an ongoing privilege.

I believe that exploring personal history not only helps us make sense of our identity, beliefs, feelings, thoughts and behaviours but can help to create a change within ourselves.

My professional Qualifications

  • Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and Therapy in the Community, MHCPC (Manor House Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling)
  • Certificate in counselling children, The place2be
  • MANTRA Psychotherapy, (Maudsley Model of Anorexia Treatment)
  • PGCE, University of Cambridge
  • BA Hons (History) ,University of London

As part of my continual professional development, I am committed to attending regular training workshops to enhance my work. I have regular supervision and follow the guidelines for Good Practice for the BACP.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

I understand that starting therapy can be daunting. The initial consultation will give you an opportunity to explain why you are seeking help, to ask questions and get a sense of how I work. We can  extend this to more than one session if necessary.

How long are sessions?

Each counselling session lasts for 50 minutes and will be arranged with you at a mutually suitable time. The sessions will be held at the same time and day each week. This time is set aside for you and will not be used for any other purpose. Face to face sessions start and finish on time regardless of late arrival. When working remotely, if there are technical interruptions or difficulties during a session, an allowance is made to extend finish time where possible.

How many sessions do I need?

This varies greatly and is deeply personal. It can depend on if you want to focus on one issue or if you feel than an open ended approach may be more helpful. I can work in both ways. MANTRA (The Maudsley method of anorexia treatment) recommends between 20-40 as a minimum.

What if I want to end?

You may stop at any time but as an important part of the process it is useful to work towards an ending.  Therefore, I recommend this is discussed in advance and then work towards an agreed ending date.

What is the cost of sessions?

All Initial consultations lasts for 60 minutes and cost £80

  • On going individual psychotherapy sessions last for 50 mins and cost £70 (9am-5pm) £80 (before 9am or after 6pm). I have limited number of spaces for clients on low income. Please contact me for more details.
  • On going MANTRA psychotherapy sessions last for 50 mins and cost £90

Where are the sessions?

My consulting room is in London, NW4 (full address on request). The nearest tube is Hendon Central or Hendon overground on Thameslink. There are various buses that stop within 5-10 minute walk. I also offer sessions via Zoom.

Are the sessions confidential?

As a member of the BACP, I work within BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice. Accordingly, confidentiality is given a high priority but is not absolute. In instances where it is deemed that there serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, I may be compelled to break confidentiality. In such circumstances, I would do my utmost to discuss it with you or at least alert you first.

What if I need to cancel a session?

The time of the session is set aside for you, and therefore all missed sessions will need to be paid for, except for holidays, which you had booked prior to starting therapy. Other than announced holiday breaks, if, for any reason, I must cancel a session, I will endeavour to offer you an alternative time. If this is not possible, you will not be charged. I will aim to give you as much notice as possible of any forthcoming breaks.
